Interim featherweight titlist Claudio Marrero was ordered on Thursday to face Jesus Rojas in his first defense. The WBA said it notified both camps that they have 30 days to make a deal or a purse bid will be ordered to determine who will promote the fight. Marrero (22-1, 16 KOs), 28, of the Dominican Republic, took the interim belt from Carlos Zambrano by first-round knockout on April 29 in Las Vegas. Rojas (25-1-2, 18 KOs), 30, of Puerto Rico, has won three fights in a row, most recently knocking out previously undefeated Abraham Lopez in the eighth round on May 5 on a "Golden Boy on ESPN" card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Secondary light heavyweight titlist Nathan Cleverly and interim titleholder Dmitry Bivol were ordered on Thursday to meet in an overdue mandatory fight next. The WBA said it notified both camps that they have 30 days to make a deal or a purse bid will be ordered to determine promotional control of the bout. The fight will continue the WBA's pledge to reduce the number of belts it awards in each weight class as one will be eliminated, though Andre Ward remains the organization's "super champion." Cleverly (30-3, 16 KOs), 30, of Wales, claimed the secondary belt by stopping Juergen Braehmer in the sixth round in October. He has not fought since, though he has been rumored to be headed to a fight with former super middleweight titlist Badou Jack, who is moving up in weight, on the Aug. 26 Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor card. The mandatory order could scuttle that. Bivol (11-0, 9 KOs), 26, a former amateur standout from Russia, has had his last two fights in the United States, where he plans to campaign. He won an interim belt from Felix Valera by lopsided decision in 2016 and has defended the belt twice while also having two nontitle fights, including in his last outing, a fourth-round demolition of Cedric Agnew on June 17 on the Ward-Sergey Kovalev undercard in Las Vegas.

Main Events announced on Thursday that it has signed junior middleweight Frank Galarza (17-2-2, 11 KOs), 31, of Brooklyn, New York, to a promotional deal. Galarza, once a highly touted prospect, is looking to return following back-to-back losses to former world titleholder Ishe Smith last September and Jarrett Hurd, who went on to win a title, in November 2015. "I am just one of those fighters who will never turn down anyone. I will fight anyone," Galarza said. "I wanted to work with Main Events because I have seen what they have done in the past. I like the way they move their fighters. I have seen what they have done with Curtis Stevens and, for me, I just felt that it was a perfect fit. After speaking with (CEO) Kathy (Duva) and (matchmaker) Jolene (Mizzone), I just knew it was right. My goal right now is to get back into the ring and start taking over. I am just grateful that Main Events has given me this opportunity right now. I promise that I am going to give my all and give everything that I have left to give to this sport."

The middleweight world title elimintion fight between Sergiy Derevyanchenko (10-0, 8 KOs), 31, a decorated Russian amateur fighting out of Brooklyn, New York, and Tureano Johnson (20-1, 14 KOs), 33, of the Bahamas,  is scheduled to take place on Aug. 25 and will headline a Premier Boxing Champions card on Fox Sports 1 at a site to be determined. In early June, promoter Lou DiBella, who represents Derevyanchenko, won the purse bid for the bout for $121,100.02 (a 50-50 split between the fighters), easily besting the bid of $62,000 offered by Johnson promoter Golden Boy. Contracts have been signed for the fight and it was scheduled for Aug. 25 with DiBella securing a PBC card from Al Haymon, Derevyanchenko's adviser and the PBC founder. The winner of the fight becomes a mandatory challenger for one of the belts held by Gennady Golovkin.

The Premier Boxing Champions prime time tripleheader on Fox on Saturday night from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, which was headlined by welterweight Omar Figueroa Jr.'s three-round destruction of Robert Guerrero and featured two other mismatches with little name recognition (light heavyweight Marcus Browne's second-round crushing of Seanie Monaghan and heavyweight Adam Kownacki stopping Artur Szpilka in four), hit a new low for PBC on Fox cards. According to Nielsen Media Research, the telecast (8 p.m.-10 p.m. ET, which overlapped only in the final 10 minutes with the HBO card) averaged just 886,000 viewers and peaked above 1 million viewers in the final half hour (exact peak audience was not available yet). This was by far the weakest prime time PBC on Fox card and the first to average fewer than 1 million viewers. It also drew the fewest viewers of any program on network TV in prime time that night.

That bout averaged 497,000 viewers, one of the lowest figures for a live evening broadcast in HBO history. The opener, light heavyweight Sullivan Barrera's lopsided decision against Joe Smith Jr., averaged 617,000 viewers and peaked at 719,000 viewers.
