No. 2 Miami finishes on 30-0 run, tops Virginia 44-28

Malik Rosier threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score, and No. 2 Miami pulled off its biggest comeback in five years by holding off Virginia 44-28 on Saturday to extend the nation's longest winning streak to 15 games.

It might not have been a perfect performance, but Miami remains perfect on the season. And with one regular-season game left, what more could anyone ask?

At halftime, Travis Homer had 5 rushing yards for Miami. After a huge fourth quarter, Homer has 96 total yards and one touchdown to seal the come-from-behind win for the undefeated Hurricanes.

Miami had such difficulty running the ball through the first three quarters in the game, the Hurricanes got their breakthrough late in the fourth quarter. Travis Homer and Malik Rosier came up big on the ground to extend Miami's lead.

Miami defensive end Trent Harris came up with a huge sack on Kurt Benkert on a crucial fourth down late in the fourth quarter -- his team-high eighth this season. Consider, Harris had a combined 6 1/2 sacks in his previous three seasons at Miami.

As poorly as Miami has played for vast stretches against Virginia, the Canes have the lead going into the fourth quarter. It should also be noted that Miami has gotten to this point in the season as a fourth-quarter team.

Kurt Benkert has looked so good for so much of this game against Miami, he's going to wish he had that last pass back -- a pick-6 that gave Jaquon Johnson the Turnover Chain and Miami a TD to tie the game.

Virginia has done an excellent job shutting down Miami's run game, but on that last drive Malik Rosier had a crucial 24-yard run that kept the series going, allowing him to throw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Lawrence Cager.

Miami coach Mark Richt said this about the message he delivered to his team this week, "I'm not going to sit here and ignore the fact there's a lot of excitement around us. But we are the same team that started this season grinding and fighting and trying to find ways to win games. If we forget that, then we are going to find ourselves in trouble."

It isn't too early to say Miami is officially in trouble against Virginia. The Cavaliers opened a two-touchdown lead thanks to a blocked punt they converted into Kurt Benkert's fourth touchdown pass of the game.

Virginia has done an excellent job taking advantage of the biggest weakness on the Miami defense: its secondary. By rolling Kurt Benkert out and getting quick passes off, the Cavaliers have 262 yards passing and Benkert is 17-of-18.

Virginia focuses on output, not outcome (0:28)

Kurt Benkert is the single biggest reason Virginia has given Miami fits. His 33-yard touchdown pass to Andre Levrone was placed perfectly in the corner of the end zone. Benkert only has one incompletion so far.

Miami's offense can thank running back Travis Homer for that touchdown even though he didn't score it. Homer recovered a fumble on special teams, put on the Turnover Chain, and then watched as Malik Rosier threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Dayall Harris.
