Laura Rutledge talks with Mississippi State's Nick Fitzgerald and Jeffery Simmons about the Golden Egg, cowbells and the Egg Bowl showdown with Ole Miss (Thanksgiving night, 7:30 ET- ESPN).
FPI gives Bulldogs advantage over Rebels
No. 14 Mississippi State has a significant chance to defeat Ole Miss and finish the season 5-3 in the SEC East. As the underdog, the Rebels could end a sour season with a sweet taste by defeating their archrival.
Other rivalries can keep their conference titles or playoff scenarios. This Egg Bowl will be the culmination of two years of NCAA investigations, lawsuits, recruiting scandals and a fired coach, taking Mississippi State-Ole Miss to another level.
Despite rolling to a victory, Clemson fell to No. 3 in this week's CFP rankings, switching spots with No. 2 Miami. Oklahoma remains at No. 4, while top-ranked Alabama readies for the Iron Bowl against No. 6 Auburn.
Not surprisingly, Alabama didn't have any trouble against Mercer and remains atop the standings heading into a tilt with Auburn.
Some games, such as Alabama-Auburn, have major playoff implications. Others, such as Ole Miss-Mississippi State, are just about good, old-fashioned hatred. Either way, these are the battles this weekend that make college football great.

Mississippi State QB Nick Fitzgerald now has six games with 100-plus yards both passing and rushing. Only Louisville's Lamar Jackson has more such games. Jackson has seven such games entering his game today.
Nick Fitzgerald threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Deddrick Thomas with 17 seconds remaining, and No. 17 Mississippi State survived a lackluster performance and four fumbles to earn a 28-21 win over Arkansas on Saturday.
FPI: Bulldogs favored on road vs. Razorbacks
Expect a lot of scoring in Fayetteville this weekend, as Mississippi State and Arkansas have combined for 201 points in their last two meetings. ESPN's FPI likes the No. 16 Bulldogs' chances to bounce back after suffering a close loss to Alabama last week.
With some SEC outfits taking a nonconference breather, we turn our attention to Mizzou, aiming to win a fifth straight and book a postseason trip.
