Recruiting Insiders: Week 2 recruiting news

The college football season is only two weeks old. While top teams like Oklahoma and Michigan have already notched big wins, they are also racking up impactful commitments.

ACC announces FSU-Miami, originally set for next Saturday, has been postponed to 10/7 due to Hurricane Irma. To accommodate, Miami-Ga Tech moved from 10/12 to 10/14.

Adam Rittenberg ESPN Staff Writer

As expected, the ACC announces that the Miami-Florida State game has been moved from Sept. 16 to Oct. 7. Miami's home game with Georgia Tech also moved from Oct. 12 to Oct. 14. Commissioner John Swofford: "It quickly became clear that it was in the best interest of our players, coaches and fans to reschedule next week's Miami at Florida State game. Typically, it's not easy to reschedule games, but in this instance, there was a clear path to adjust quickly and effectively."

John Swofford said if league games are cancelled for contending teams, ACC likely would use head-to-head results or overall winning percentage to determine standings. Miami visits Florida State next week. "There are adjustments that can be made and would be made, if necessary," Swofford said, "but it's really premature to jump to that point."

Adam Rittenberg ESPN Staff Writer

ACC commissioner John Swofford to ESPN on the hurricane's impact on schools and future games: "These kinds of events put in perspective where football lies. ... While we want to try and play the games, we do not want to do so at the expense of the best interest of our citizens, our fans, our players and our students. With football, it's not easy to reschedule games. We all know that. If the need arises, we'll do the best we possibly can."

Alabama holds firm at No. 1 heading into Week 2

Alabama secured all but one first-place vote to hold on to the No. 1 spot in this week's AP Top 25, while Week 1 opponent FSU fell from No. 3 to No. 10. Reigning national champion Clemson rose two spots after a blowout win vs. Kent State. With Michigan moving up three spots to No. 8, there are now four Big Ten teams in the top 10.

Heather Dinich ESPN Senior Writer

In spite losing the game and his starting quarterback, Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said games like the one he played against Alabama are still "good for college" football. "You evaluate those each year and the future of your program and try to see where you're at," he said. "You schedule those games so far ahead you never know. Sometimes they're good, sometimes they're bad as far as how your team is or where your experience in your team is, really is what I'm talking about. We had a great game, we lost, we've gotta move on."

Heather Dinich ESPN Senior Writer

I asked FSU coach Jimbo Fisher if the risk of injuries might scare him away from opening against elite opponents like Bama in the future, given the injury to QB Deondre Francois. "We lost Francois, and they lost two linebackers," he said. "Injuries can occur at anytime. .... You can't play like that. You can't worry about injuries, you've gotta play football."

Andrea Adelson ESPN Staff Writer

Jimbo Fisher was asked whether he had any regrets keeping Deondre Francois in the Alabama game late into the fourth quarter despite trailing 24-7. "Heck no," Fisher said. "You see Tennessee and UCLA? You don't pack it in. We had plenty of time. We had a drive there, we're right back in the football game. We're still competing to win the game."

Florida State has moved kickoff against ULM to noon Saturday because of Hurricane Irma. “We have moved the game time after consulting with a number of state agencies and based on the information we have on the potential impact on the state,” FSU President John Thrasher said in a statement. "The earlier start will give ULM the opportunity to travel safely after the game, and provide many of our fans a chance to come to the game and return home in time to make any necessary preparations.”
