Jimbo Fisher said he wouldn't want his underclassmen working out at pro day if it came in the middle of spring camp. He said it's not good for the team or player, who wouldn't be in combine shape and could be injured from practice. Fisher was one of the loudest advocates for a junior combine, but he wants it to happen in late April or May. A recent rule change allows programs to have up to five rising juniors perform at pro day. Florida State has several rising juniors who could be high picks, including Derwin James, who is considered a 2018 first-round lock.

FSU's Fisher: Cook has 'tremendous character'

Jimbo Fisher says NFL teams need not worry about Dalvin Cook's past run-ins with the law and that the running back is a "tremendous character guy."

Dalvin Cook didn't want to make comparisons with Leonard Fournette, but he said he "definitely" feels as if he's the draft's best running back. "Every time I step on the field I feel I'm the best player," Cook said. He also talked about teaming back up with Jameis Winston with the Bucs.

Just a 0.5 sack separated DeMarcus Walker and the 2016 national leader, and his 16-sack senior season has him in the Day 2 range. A little final coaching from a Lions assistant -- more violence, the coach demanded -- as could help him break into the late first round.

No head coaches at Florida State's pro day, but there's no shortage of NFL representation. Dalvin Cook is looking to improve on a so-so combine, and some watches had his 40-yard dash in the 4.4 range. If he falls toward the bottom of the first round, he could be a steal for a championship-caliber team.

Apparently Dalvin Cook IS running the 40. Was told earlier by FSU official that Cook WAS NOT going to run.

FSU RB Dalvin Cook will only do positional drills at pro day today. Standing on the 4.49 he ran in the 40 at the NFL combine. He did 22 reps on the bench and had a 30.5-inch vertical leap at the combine.

Who will be the top freshmen in 2017?

Many of the top Class of 2017 recruits are on campus and on their way to becoming top freshmen. That includes RB Cam Akers, who could immediately replace Dalvin Cook at FSU.

Cook a good fit with Packers? (1:21)

Florida State is hoping for a big season from Josh Sweat, who'll be healthy for the start of the 2017 season, which would be a first. He was recovering from major knee surgery in 2015, underwent minor knee surgery during 2016 and now is waiting for his finger to heal after surgery. If healthy, he's one of the more complete defensive ends in the ACC.

Seven schools remain in the mix for Dorian Thompson-Robinson, the nation's No. 4 dual-threat quarterback. Thompson-Robinson released his list of seven finalists via twitter, as Cal, Florida State, Michigan, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina and UCLA remain in the hunt to sign the No. 107 overall prospect and No. 2 uncommitted quarterback at this time. It looks like this could come down to a battle between Michigan and UCLA, as the Bruins established themselves early as the program to beat for Thompson-Robinson and his teammate, ESPN 300 tight end Brevin Jordan, while Thompson-Robinson's mother attended Michigan. Cal was not on his initial top-12 list, while Florida State and Oregon are programs to watch and could make a move.

From football to neurosurgery residency for Rolle (4:02)

After a 10-day spring break, Florida State came back to practice a little sloppy. Coach Jimbo Fisher said the energy was good, but as expected there was some rust and exhaustion. "They were supposed to be running [on break], but I don't know if they were."

How Florida State can make the CFP jump

The Seminoles are losing Dalvin Cook, but they should still contend for the playoff. Beating Dabo Swinney and Clemson would go a long way toward that goal.
