Ranking MLB defenses: Astros

The Stros have a few more defensive liabilities to work around than other teams in their tier, so Josh Reddick struggling with the glove in right field has been a bit of an unhappy surprise.

Hosmer takes the lead at first

The Royals' Eric Hosmer has leaped the Tigers' Miguel Cabrera and the A's Yonder Alonso for most 1B votes in the latest AL All-Star update. If the lead holds up, Hosmer would be the third Royal to earn consecutive fan elections, joining George Brett and Salvador Perez.

Keuchel making progress

The Houston Chronicle reports LHP Dallas Keuchel played catch Monday for the first time since going on the disabled list on June 7 with neck discomfort. The former Cy Young winner was 9-0 with an MLB-best 1.67 ERA at the time of his placement on the DL.

Matt Adams has done a great job filling in for Freddie Freeman in Atlanta (slugging .658 with the Braves), but once Freeman returns there may not be room for him. With today's pitcher-heavy rosters, it's hard to carry a 1B-only bench player. How about a trade to the Astros, where Carlos Beltran hasn't been that good, or the Royals, who could use a DH?
