Will winter meetings sparks finally light the hot stove fire?

The Marlins' salary dump continued, and critics took turns bashing them. A group of relievers cashed in. And, well, the rest of this week was more of a fact-finding mission than a splash of activity. Big moves are coming, it's just a matter of when.

Cashman: Yanks mulled promoting Torres in '17

On the day top Yankees prospect Gleyber Torres turned 21, New York general manager Brian Cashman revealed the team's big league staff wanted him on last year's Opening Day roster.

Here is Yankees GM Brian Cashman's latest update on where he stands on moves: "We are accessing all opportunities and see if we can land a plane," Cashman said. "Right now, we are circling the airport. We are waiting for clearance on the runway. That is not from ownership. That means that we've got the signal that it is a safe landing spot, that we are comfortable with it, excited by that. We have enough gas in that tank that we can keep circling for awhile."

Will Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge hit over/under 86.5 home runs in the 2018 season? The Golden Nugget in Las Vegas just released that prop.

The baseball writers' choices for the Hall of Fame are due 12/31 & the results announcement is 1/24, but the people's choices re: Barry Bonds & Roger Clemens are in, according to a Seton Hall Sports Poll, released Tue. & 49% said no to the duo, 35% yes & 16% didn't know or had no opinion. 62% said they agree with HoFer Joe Morgan that players with a history of PEDs use don't belong in the HoF & 26% disagreed.

Monique Jones ESPN

From Buster Olney: The Orioles have been talking with other teams about moving Manny Machado, and one of the teams that has expressed interest, according to sources: The Yankees, who currently have a need for a third baseman. The Orioles have not executed a major sell-off in the time that Peter Angelos has been owner of the team, but the circumstances could be right for that. Machado is a free agent at the end of the 2018 season and is expected to test the market, and the Orioles want access to the best prospects – and the Yankees have a very well-stocked farm system. Stay tuned.

Headley trade sets up Yankees to make other moves (0:29)

Enrique Rojas ESPNdeportes

También hablarán hoy los últimos ganadores de la Serie Mundial, Joe Maddon, de Chicago Cubs, y AJ Hinch, de Houston Astros. #WinterMeetings

In trading Chase Headley and his $13 million salary, along with Bryan Mitchell for the .200 hitting, 27-year-old Jabari Blash to the Padres, the Yankees are clearing room under the luxury tax threshold following the Giancarlo Stanton blockbuster. This move puts the Yankees in position to re-sign CC Sabathia, add another starter via trade or free agency and/or re-sign Todd Frazier to man third. The main question facing any Frazier deal is: How many years would they give him with Manny Machado a possible free agent target next winter and exciting prospect, Miguel Andujar, not far from the big leagues? All and all, Yankees GM Brian Cashman is not done yet.
