Great nugget from ESPN Stats & Info this morning: Of pitchers with at least seven career starts against the Yankees, Boston's Chris Sale has the lowest career ERA (1.25). Riffing off of that, of lefties with at least seven starts vs. New York, here are the top three, from baseball-reference.com and including some relief innings, which the previous stat does not: 1. Sale (1.17), 2. Harry Coveleski (1.57), 3. Babe Ruth (2.21). Ruth was 17-5 against the Yankees before he joined them in time for the 1920 season.

ESPN Stats and Information

Aaron Judge opened the scoring against Rick Porcello and the Red Sox with a 391-foot blast. Long home runs haven't been out of the ordinary for Judge since he got called up last summer.

Aaron Judge was given the ball of his 2-run shot tonight at Fenway Park. Today was also Judge's 25th birthday.

If the Yankees were to have scripted their first game of the season at Fenway, they very well might have put together a game in which Luis Severino, Aaron Judge and Greg Bird all starred. Severino threw seven scoreless. Judge hit a two-run homer and made a great catch. Bird had an RBI single. Meanwhile, Dellin Betances and Aroldis Chapman combined to do enough to preserve a 3-1 win over Boston.

Marly Rivera ESPN Writer

Aroldis Chapman, who has not allowed a run in 7 appearances this season (6.1IP, 3H, 2BB, 9K), warms up in the bullpen. Yankees lead the Red Sox 3-0, top of the 9th inning.

Andrew Marchand ESPN Senior Writer

The lessons of Pedro Martinez continue to payoff for the Yankees Luis Severino. Severino, who worked with the former Red Sox great this winter in the Dominican, threw seven scoreless innings, allowing six hits, striking out six and walking two. He left with the Yankees up, 3-0, in the eighth.

In the third inning at Fenway, Aaron Judge just plowed into the second row of the seats along the right field line, make an outstanding catch. The 6-foot-7, 282 pound Judge was not hurt. As for the seats, they appear to be day-to-day.
