Kevin Kiermaier came out with a bang in just his third game off the DL, pacing the competition with a 443-foot leadoff home run. Jesus Aguilar hit a blast that traveled over 440 feet for the second day in a row, while Cheslor Cuthbert's homer was his second of the season and first since April 8.

Rays place rookie P on DL

The Tampa Bay Rays have placed rookie pitcher Jacob Faria on the 10-day disabled list with a left abdominal strain. Tampa Bay announced the roster move, which is retroactive to Aug. 17, before Sunday's game against the Seattle Mariners. Rays ace Chris Archer will move up one spot in the rotation and replace Faria as Tuesday's scheduled starter against the Toronto Blue Jays. Faria, 24, is 5-4 with a 3.32 ERA in 13 starts for Tampa Bay this season. The right-hander has 77 strikeouts in 78 2/3 innings.

Nelson Cruz hit two doubles and his 30th home run Friday night and Erasmo Ramirez won his first game for the Seattle Mariners since April 1, 2014, a 7-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Kiermaier back in lineup

The Rays activated OF Kevin Kiermaier (fractured hip) from the 60-day disabled list on Friday and optioned OF Mallex Smith to Triple-A Durham in a corresponding roster move. Kiermaier missed more than two months of action with the injury.

The Rays were shut out for the fifth time in eight games on Saturday, scoring an average of one run per game over that stretch. The Elias Sports Bureau notes that this is the first time that a team has been shut out five times in an eight-game span in a single season since the 2012 Dodgers from June 25th to July 2nd. It's the first time this has happened in the American League since the 1978 Athletics from June 10th to 17th.
