Carroll says lack of trust doomed Raptors' year

With his future now in Brooklyn, DeMarre Carroll told the Toronto Sun on Monday that the Raptors' locker room was divided last season as players lacked trust in each other.

Brian Windhorst ESPN Senior Writer

The Raptors will waive C Justin Hamilton after the trade to send DeMarre Carroll to Brooklyn is finalized, sources said. Hamilton is guaranteed $3 million this season, Toronto will use the stretch provision to reduce their cap hit to $1 million this season to give them extra room under the luxury tax line. Hamilton will be a free agent.

The trade of DeMarre Carroll and now Cory Joseph will have the Raptors positioned to be under the luxury tax. Toronto will likely project to be $555k below the tax with 13 guaranteed and 1 non-guaranteed contract. Keep in mind that newly signed Kyle Lowry has $2.3M in unlikely bonuses that could push the Raptors into the tax if the bonuses are met.

The Raptors are currently $900K below the tax with 14 players under contract. Toronto in 2018-19 now has $112M in salary, $11M below the luxury tax.
