Predicting fantasy over/unders for Panthers

29 total touchdowns for Cam Newton? 142 carries for Christian McCaffrey? David Newton makes his predictions on Panthers over/unders.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera on what he saw from quarterback Cam Newton during Newton's limited throwing in Thursday's joint practice against the Titans: "Not bad. You could tell he was rusty. A couple late on the decisions he made. When he was throwing the ball, he was throwing the ball well, so we're not concerned about that. Now it's just a matter of him working himself back into shape where he can go out and take normal reps instead of us having to make sure we monitor him.''

Panthers coach Ron Rivera wasn't the only one not happy with the performance of the offense against the Titans on Thursday. Here's what what rookie running back Christian McCaffrey told reporters on Nashville: "We have a standard that is higher than that for sure."

Panthers coach Ron Rivera told reporters in Nashville on Thursday that quarterback Cam Newton will be evaluated again on Friday before he makes a decision on whether the 2015 NFL MVP plays in Saturday's preseason game against Tennessee. That Newton didn't throw again in team drills on Thursday in a joint practice with the Titans suggests the Panthers will go with Derek Anderson as the starter.

Cam Newton did a full 7-on-7 drive against Titans D in joint practice. He had a string of completions but the drive stalled in the red zone. The final play was a throw into the end zone that was dropped and/or broken up by Adoree' Jackson. No team reps for Newton today.

OVERHEARD: "You got some ice for that shoulder," Titans fan to Cam Newton after Adoree' Jackson breaks up on a Newton pass during 1-on-1s. A couple of plays later after CAR's O gets a win Newton barks back to the fan: "You got some ice for that mouth." After the drill, he went back to find the fan and chirp a little more: "That's one I heard before. Tell me something I ain't ever hear." Banter is still going in between Cam's individual work with trainers.

Cam Newton opens 7-on-7 passing drills against the Titans, according to NFL Nation reporter Cameron Wolfe. Panthers coach Ron Rivera didn't rule out Newton for Saturday's preseason game against Tennessee but it would surprise me if the 2015 NFL Player of the Year took a snap.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera on second-round pick Curtis Samuel increasing his workload in individual drills after missing most of training camp at Wofford College with a hamstring injury: "It's good to see him out there moving around. It's really about him working and getting himself back into football shape."

Cameron Wolfe ESPN

Mike Mularkey said he anticipates DeMarco Murray playing Saturday vs Panthers but he will make a final decision closer to game day. Ron Rivera is undecided on whether Cam Newton will play. He didn't do much at practice today.

Cam Newton has been mostly a cheerleader during Titans-Panthers joint practice. He did some individual drills, but has been spending most of team drills working to the side and cheering his teammates on.

OVERHEARD: "They got too many receivers for this (stuff) bro," gassed Panthers CB Captain Munnerlyn said after Taywan Taylor caught a deep ball on him during 1 on 1s. Shortly before that Harry Douglas caught this short pass on him.

Cameron Wolfe ESPN

Rainy morning in Nashville, but Titans-Panthers practice scheduled to kick off in a little over an hour. Both coaches want no fights but with joint practices intensity will be high so we'll see.
