The Jaguars have scored the fourth-fewest TDs over the past four seasons. Part of Tom Coughlin's solution: RB Leonard Fournette.

Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette, when asked what he would consider a successful rookie season: "Going to the Super Bowl."

How Fournette will fare in NFL

The Sports Science crew explains how former LSU running back -- and No. 4 overall pick in the draft -- Leonard Fournette stacks up against NFL running backs like Adrian Peterson.

Jaguars get a dominant runner in Leonard Fournette (1:00)

Mike Sando ESPN Senior Writer

Coaches and personnel people have mixed opinions on Leonard Fournette. Some questioned his ability to create in the absence of excellent blocking. Some thought taking him in the top 10 could create pressure on a play caller to shape the offense around him, at the expense of creativity. Jacksonville was a natural fit with Tom Coughlin there and a former OL coach as head coach.

Jaguars select Fournette at No. 4 (0:25)

ESPN Stats and Information

Leonard Fournette is the first LSU running back of the common draft era to be taken top 10 overall, and the first Tiger RB to be taken in the first round since Joseph Addai in 2006.

Third straight year that a running back has gone within the first 10 picks: Todd Gurley 10th to the Rams, Ezekiel Elliott 4th to the Cowboys, Leonard Fournette 4th to the Jaguars.

Matt Bowen ESPN Staff Writer

Leonard Fournette can handle 20-plus carries a game for the Jaguars. Downhill power at 230-240 pounds with 4.5 speed. That's a nightmare for defensive backs filling the hole. Fournette is going to drop his pads on contact and move the sticks.

Todd McShay ESPN Senior Writer

Picking RB Leonard Fournette shows Tom Coughlin's influence within the Jaguars' organization, and I think the decision is spot on. Jacksonville's new philosophy is run-first and play great defense, and Fournette is a rare talent who complements a young, emerging defense. Now QB Blake Bortles has a year to prove if he can be the guy with a better supporting cast.

Michael DiRocco ESPN Staff Writer

Leonard Fournette is just the third running back the Jaguars have taken in the first round in team history. James Stewart (1995) and Fred Taylor (1998) are the others.

Power back for Tom Coughlin and Doug Marrone. Makes sense for Jags to go offense. Jets have to LOVE knowing they can get OJ Howard or their choice of the top two safeties.

Jaguars go RB route, snag Fournette at No. 4

The Jaguars have selected Leonard Fournette with the No. 4 overall pick, hoping the former LSU star running back can help a backfield that has managed a league-low 57 rushing scores since 2010.

Michael DiRocco ESPN Staff Writer

The Jaguars have taken RB Leonard Fournette, which isn't a surprise. He ran for 3,840 yards and 40 TDs and averaged 6.2 yards per carry in three years at LSU. Gives the Jaguars a physical pounder that makes play-action fakes significantly more effective. Like the pick.

Todd McShay ESPN Senior Writer

Someone is going to get great value with LSU safety Jamal Adams, who's my No. 2 overall player and is still on the board. It'll be interesting to see if Jacksonville and/or Tennessee sticks with positional need or takes the best player available in Adams. If both pass, the Jets are a huge winner, given their hole at the position.

Michael DiRocco ESPN Staff Writer

The Jaguars are now on the clock. Sticking with my prediction of RB Leonard Fournette. Lot of talk over the past week that there is heavy interest in Deshaun Watson. Wouldn't be surprised if they traded back, either.

Michael DiRocco ESPN Staff Writer

So if the 49ers take Solomon Thomas at No. 3 the Jaguars will have to choose between Deshaun Watson, Leonard Fournette, and Jonathan Allen.

Michael DiRocco ESPN Staff Writer

According to Tom Coughlin, the draft has already started.

Michael DiRocco ESPN Staff Writer

How bad have the Jaguars drafted in the first round the last 10 years? From ESPN Stats & Info: Since 2008, 31 of 32 teams have taken at least one eventual pro bowler with a first round pick. The only team that hasn't: the Jaguars. Jalen Ramsey is going to bust that streak -- maybe as early as this season.

Michael DiRocco ESPN Staff Writer

30 minutes until the draft begins. Who will the Jaguars take with the fourth pick: DeShaun Watson, Leonard Fournette, Jonathan Allen, Solomon Thomas? Allen and Thomas would fill a need but the Jaguars have done a lot of work on defense the past two years. They need a playmaker on offense. Still sticking with my prediction of Fournette.

ESPN Staff

Which player will the Jaguars take at No. 4? Here are the final projected picks from Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay, plus the players Louis Riddick and NFL Nation would select: Kiper/McShay/NFL Nation -- Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU; Riddick – Malik Hooker, S, Ohio State.

ESPN Stats and Information

With Blake Bortles under center, the Jaguars have suffered through some of the worst QB play in the NFL. Could that be reason enough to take a quarterback with the No. 4 pick in the draft?
