Rookie Rams WR Cooper Kupp hasn't heard from anyone who has picked him up in their fantasy league. Yet.

ILB Mark Barron and CB Kayvon Webster participated in practice today. OLB Robert Quinn was limited to individual work. McVay said it's mostly "preventative maintenance" with Quinn, who has been limited to 15 starts the last two years and dealt with a hand injury during the offseason program.

Rams coach Sean McVay, on whether he anticipates animosity in the preseason game against the Chargers (there were three fights during their last joint practice in Irvine): "I think it's going to be a great, competitive game."

Tavon Austin is "more than likely" going to be out again this week and will thus miss the third preseason game. Rams coach Sean McVay nonetheless said "signs are very positive" with his progress from the hamstring injury. Here he is catching passes from the Jugs machine.

Rams coach Sean McVay was asked about watching the eclipse on Sunday and said, "I don't know anything about anything other than football." He didn't end up watching it, either. He was cooped up in his office, watching film.

Fox is reportedly hiring Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson as an NFL analyst. He will be direct and entertaining.

Rams' defense is very shorthanded these days

The Rams' projecting starting defense hasn't played together in a game this preseason, as injuries, holdouts and caution have taken their toll.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

The Rams' defense has played without four starters (Aaron Donald, Robert Quinn, Mark Barron, Kayvon Webster) in the first two preseason games. Here's Sean McVay, on how hard it is to evaluate that side right now.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

What jumped out to Sean McVay about Jared Goff from Saturday? "Good decision-making." One of his favorites was when Khalil Mack was in his face and he threw the ball away. "That's a great play that maybe nobody notices because it was the only play. And that's being a good decision maker." Another: The five-yard completion for a first down to Sammy Watkins. Raiders penetrated a bit on the right side, so Goff stepped up, protected the football and made an accurate throw. "That's good quarterback play right there," McVay said.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Rams coach Sean McVay felt Jared Goff's success on Saturday was due in large part to Todd Gurley establishing himself on the ground, which set up play action. McVay's Washington offenses were very successful on play action, and he's doing that a lot with Goff here. For McVay, it's important to "have plays that start out the same and are different. It forces the defense to kind of have to adjust and react accordingly. And you have to be able to run the football for them to honor the play-action pass."

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

McVay said he is "optimistic" that CB Kayvon Webster, OLB Robert Quinn and ILB Mark Barron will play this Saturday, though probably not as much as the other starters. Neither of those three has played in a preseason game this year (nor has Aaron Donald, of course).

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Some injury updates: DB Lamarcus Joyner is fine after leaving early. ... OLB Carlos Thompson (left ankle) will only miss a couple weeks, so the Rams might have dodged a serious injury there. ... WR Mike Thomas is day-to-day while in concussion protocol. ... Sean McVay said WR Tavon Austin (hamstring) is still day-to-day. "Ideally" Austin would play this week, but no word.

Cooper Kupp may be Rams receiver worth watching

Rams receiver Cooper Kupp showed in Saturday's win over the Raiders that he has become a security blanket for second-year quarterback Jared Goff.

Carr, Goff shine in Rams 24-21 exhibition win over Raiders

Derek Carr threw two touchdown passes for Oakland in his first game since breaking his leg last season and Jared Goff led three scoring drives for the Rams during Los Angeles' 24-21 exhibition victory over the Raiders on Saturday night.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Sean Mannion marched the Rams 80 yards up the field for the game-winning drive in a 24-21 win over the Raiders. Mannion converted on 4th and 9 with a dart to Mike Thomas, who absorbed a helmet-to-helmet hit from a Raiders DB. Mannion then sailed a 20-yard pass up the sideline to Josh Reynolds, their long, athletic fourth-round pick, who battled for the football and won. Very good day all around for the Rams, now 2-0!8! the preseason.

OLB Carlos Thompson being carted off the field. Raiders rookie Kareem Are launched himself towards the pile, but instead caught Thompson on the left knee. Looks like a significant injury.

Rams COO Kevin Demoff sat in the CBSLA broadcast booth and said there is no update on Aaron Donald. "He's a great player; he deserves a great contract," Demoff added.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

First-half stats from earlier were not updated. Jared Goff: 16-for-20, 160 yards, TD; Cooper Kupp: 6 catches, 7 targets, 70 yards, TD; Todd Gurley: 8 carries, 38 yards, TD.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

About as encouraging an offensive first half as the Rams can have. Jared Goff (14-of-17, 145, 1 TD), Todd Gurley (8 carries, 38 yards, 1 TD) and Cooper Kupp (5 catches, 67 yards, 1 TD on 6 targets) all looked good. Rams were 6-for-8 on third down and picked up 12 first downs. They lead the Raiders, 17-14.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Rams settle for a 35-yard field goal by Greg Zuerlein on a long, methodical drive to begin the second quarter, and that will probably be it for Jared Goff. He was great. 14-of-17 for 145 yards and a touchdown, with lots of impressive throws. One was an incompletion, on a deep ball to Sammy Watkins that was perfectly placed but batted away. The Rams have converted on six of their first eight third-down attempts.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Sammy Watkins with his first catch for the Rams, a five-yard reception to covert a 3rd and 2. They just ran him on a screen, too, and he picked up three yards. Rams are 5-for-6 on third down.
